Mafwe Museum sign erection and project meeting

Mafwe Museum sign erection and project meeting

In August 2022 we paid a visit to the Mafwe at the Living Museum in the northern part of Namibia to, among other things, install a new road sign.

The erection of the sign had become necessary because the Mafwe had moved two years ago and some of the tour operators, who until then had only known the old place, were going to nowhere out of habit. The sign erected two years ago at the crossroads 3km south of the museum was too easy to miss. Therefore it was necessary to put up a bigger sign.

After the signs were erected, there was a short project meeting. First, we presented the LCFN gifts, such as skins, brochures, and the new program pamphlets for 2023 and 2024. After that, we wanted to ask about problems in the museum, challenges caused by Covid-19, etc. However, it turned out that there were no problems at the moment, the museum staff are very satisfied with the revival of tourism. 32 actors work in two groups in the Living Museum. All in all, everything looked 100% satisfactory.

A lot has happened in the Living Museum itself. Among other things, several very fast-growing trees were planted to provide more shade in the museum area. There are also new plantings of baobab trees.

The Living Museum structures were also enlarged and improved, and the Craft Shop was very well stocked. All in all, the project leaves a very good impression and is very popular with many tour operators. Here we would like to thank Pack Safari, who support the Mafwe, and send many guests to the Living Museum.

The only thing now missing at the Mafwe museum is a reliable toilet. Unfortunately, the dry toilet that was built on the old site when the museum opened did not cope well with the move to the new site and is not recommended for use by international guests. The Mafwe will shortly be requesting an estimate for the construction of a new toilet structure in the next larger town of Katima Mulilo, for which we are still looking for donors.

If you would like to support us and the Mafwe people, we would be happy to receive any donation:
